BBC Audio North is a department within BBC Audio. There are approximately 700 staff in the overall radio production department and we produce more than 34,000 hours of programmes a year. BBC Audio is the biggest supplier of non-news factual and drama programmes to the BBC’s audio networks, principally Radio 4, Radio 3, the World Service, and BBC Sounds.
BBC Audio North is home to 55 of these staff and makes programmes which cover multi genres – including the consumer journalism of You and Yours, the Religious journalism of Sunday, faith programmes such as Daily Service, and Sunday Worship, Radio 3 Classical programmes such as Afternoon Concert, Saturday Breakfast and Sound of Cinema, arts and culture output such as the Verb and the renowned poetry festival – Contains Strong Language
Role Responsibility
The Production Co-ordinator provides logistical and co-ordination support to the production team on one or more productions, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
As a production co-ordinator you will:
Work in partnership with editorial colleagues to deliver outstanding, distinctive, multiplatform content by providing the ways to realise editorial ambitions within operational and financial constraints. Professionally co-ordinate production(s) using specialist production management skills, knowledge and experience. Play an active role in maintaining a professional pan-BBC production management community. Drive continuous improvement throughout production. Requirements

Are you the right candidate?
We’re looking for enthusiastic and flexible individuals with a passion for our output with strong organisational and logistical skills as well as knowledge of radio production techniques, preferably with experience of working on both live and pre-recorded radio programmes.
Our small teams are extremely busy so you’ll be used to working without supervision, relying on your initiative, and you will be a key team member of the team with the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of contributors and colleagues. You’ll be able to anticipate potential production issues and find creative solutions as well as simultaneously managing a range of projects with conflicting demands and tight deadlines. The post will cover the whole range of PC duties and there is an expectation that you will work on a weekend rota for location and studio recordings/broadcasts, the role may also involve some early mornings/late evenings. Experience of using BBC finance systems is desirable, but not essential.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Demonstrable experience of playing a co-ordinating role within a production team
  • Experience of delivering a range of/parts of productions on time and on budget and of coordinating deliverables for productions
  • Good working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a level of technical awareness
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills - able to schedule and prioritise people and activities to meet operational deadlines
  • Able to use and advise on production systems and adopt new technologies on productions
  • Knows how to identify and source suitable resources and negotiate deals within given parameters
  • Business and finance skills - able to prepare, manage and/or monitor specific production resource plans and budgets
  • Knowledge of the BBC and the wider industry
