Job Purpose
BBC Radio 3 offers its listeners a unique blend of music and culture. It does this through a schedule of live and recorded programmes, concerts of classical music, new music, jazz and world music, as well as through insightful documentaries, crafted features and ambitious drama. It is the broadcast partner of the BBC Proms and the BBC Orchestras and Choirs and fosters many external partnerships in the music and arts world.

The Radio 3 trails producer is responsible for creating all on air trails to the designated Station Sound requirements agreed with R3 Network.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
The Trails Producer will manage fortnightly meetings to discuss the trails priorities with the R3 Commissioning team, agree trails briefs, communicate the agreed priorities, record and edit the trails to a high broadcast standard, share information with the Media Planner, and schedule the trails for broadcast.
The Trails Producer will create three built trails each week for the network. This includes agreeing the editorial, writing a script, clipping audio, checking music rights, selecting music and creating a music bed, recording the script with a presenter, and mixing all the audio together to a broadcast standard using SADiE. The Producer will then comply and upload the finalised trails to the Dira playout system, and music report using Dira.
The Trails Producer may also write verbal messaging as required by the Commissioning Executive & commissioning team.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
  • A passion for audio and for broadcasting to the target Radio 3 audiences.
  • Comprehensive knowledge relevant to Radio 3’s output..
  • Innovative and imaginative approach to ideas and the ability to recognise what makes a good trail.
  • Good understanding of radio production techniques, operational knowledge of broadcast equipment and experience of digital editing systems
  • Close attention to detail in all aspects of production.
  • Ability to write clear and concise material for scripts, in a way that appeals to the audience.
  • Collaborative in sharing ideas and knowledge.
  • Awareness of Diversity and Inclusion and its importance for the Network.
  • Knowledge of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines .
  • Awareness of music rights policies and restrictions.
