Description

Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the President, lead and inspire UnitedMasters’ Music Team, responsible for creating a path for independent artists to go from their first release, to growing their skills and fan base, to signing brand, sync and influencer deals, to breaking, to signing with UnitedMasters as a partner artist, to topping the Billboard charts.
  • Sit on the executive leadership team as a preeminent industry expert and voice of the independent artist to strengthen our customer-centric culture and ensure that we put the needs of music creators at the forefront of company strategy and decision making.
  • In partnership with the President and CRO, develop a vision for UnitedMasters’ roster of Partner Artists, long-tail music creators, indie labels and catalog to support differentiation in discovery and monetization opportunities with brands and licensing partners.
  • Spearhead UnitedMaster’s strategy to develop scalable, innovative, artist-centric ways to accelerate artists’ creative independence and growth as entrepreneurs, including through artist education, marketing & promotions, community building, monetization, and operations.
  • Assist with UnitedMasters’ sync strategy, and ensure we have the artists, genres and catalogs needed to drive this business forward as we scale.
  • Lead, manage and grow P&L for UnitedMaster’s in-house artist-first label including the Strategy, A&R department, Artist Relations, Artist Marketing / Promotions - identifying high potential up and coming artists, JVs and established artists, nurturing those artists and relationships and enabling them to grow and reach their potential.
  • Lead team owning executive level relationships with DSPs, managers, independent labels and music industry counterparts as you grow UnitedMaster’s position and influence within the music ecosystem through business development and strategic partnerships.
  • Refine and execute on strategy for UnitedMasters that enables artists monetize their music (beyond streaming) and their personal brands by leveraging UnitedMater’s unique competencies including brand customers, music licensors, fans and partners.
  • Inform strategy to productize label-like services so that 10’s of thousands of UnitedMasters best SELECT artists can get access to tech-enabled label like services to promote their music and their personal brands
  • Position UnitedMasters as a true alternative to signing with a major record label and broadly considered a better alternative for artists who want to own their music and their career.
  • Act as a thought leader in the music industry, advocating for artist independence and the creator economy. Develop thriving relationships with the music community while innovating on the status quo and creating new value to artists with managers, independent labels, distributors, publishers, and PROs.

Requirements

  • With 15+ years of progressive music and tech industry experience, you possess a fundamental understanding of the music business and the technology-empowered creator economy, and have strong relationships within it.
  • You understand and/or have direct experience with DIY music distribution platforms, record label services and operations, publishing, brand partnerships, and sync services.
  • Deep experience in what it takes to discover, support and grow the next generations of artists, with a point-of-view on what a next generation pro-artist record label disrupter should look like. You are passionate about this mission and energized to foster artist-first thinking and decision making at the company.
  • Deeply understand the business of music, business models, strategies, competitive landscape and a creative thinker able to envision where the industry is going and how to leverage UnitedMaters unique brand partnerships, tech platform, and marketplace to grow and enhance the business.
  • Able to set strategy, develop goals (OKRs), prioritize, and lead teams to execute / accomplish ambitious goals in compressed timeframes.
  • You are a dynamic and decisive leader with an owner mentality and entrepreneurial mindset. You take ownership of your functions and make sure they are running smoothly and effectively while collaborating effectively across the company. You are confident leading through uncertainty and building from zero to one, and for global scale.
  • You have a proven ability to build, manage and motivate a multi-layered, distributed team + in a fast-paced, high-performance environment. You successfully build a culture of recruiting within your organization.
  • You are confident leading and participating in long-term strategic and resource planning while managing successful execution in the near-term. You have a proven ability to align teams around shared goals while consistently prioritizing and negotiating trade-offs.
