Executive Editor, BBC Audio Wales & West of England
Description
- To provide creative leadership for audio production teams, delivering content for BBC network radio, including BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service and BBC Sounds. The role involves the day to day management of staff in Cardiff and Bristol and the responsibility for the success of the business. You will inspire the teams to deliver outstanding output for a range of suppliers, as well as reinvent strands and pitch for new business. You will be committed to creating diversity in our content and our workforce and have ideas for how you will do it. You will manage budgets with production management and keep the business on track.
- The Executive Editor oversees a wide range of output including Composer of the Week for BBC Radio 3 and a wide range of live classical concerts for Radio; regular returning strands for Radio 4 like Word of Mouth, Poetry Please, Soul Music and a wide range of audio drama – both established works and new writing. The Executive Editor is expected to take a lead on devising and selling new programmes and formats to the networks.

Requirements
- Experience of making compelling, innovative content, communicating a clear editorial vision across all platforms.
- The skills and experience to effectively lead, motivate and manage a diverse team, including managing development and performance.
- Has sound editorial judgment and understands the importance of the BBC’s editorial guidelines, compliance policies, and values regarding accuracy and impartiality.
- Can demonstrate being a champion of diversity and inclusion; workforce and creative.
- Experience of working on a range of content and genres relevant to target audiences ie, drama, arts, culture and classical music.
- Is able to understand the creative ambitions of our key audio networks, including Radio 3, Radio 4 and BBC Sounds, and lead a team to deliver the best content for those platforms.
- Experience of generating ideas and translating them into digital and social media content as well as on air material.
- Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with presenters, internal colleagues, external partners and organisations.
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage several areas of work at one time, deliver to deadlines and to react positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
- The role will work across Cardiff and Bristol and the successful candidate will be expected to be in those locations for a minimum of two days a week.
