BBC Asian Network is the UK’s biggest Asian multi-platform radio station celebrating British Asian identity - the culture, music and conversation that influence British Asians today. Asian Network Breakfast is moving studios from London to Birmingham in 2025 so we have a rare and exciting opportunity to join popular and vibrant BBC presenter Nikita Kanda. This is a production position working for BBC Audio. We devise, develop and deliver original content for the BBC. We are a key supplier of daytime, evening programmes and podcasts across Asian Network, Radio 1 and 1Xtra. These stations look to connect the BBC with the next generation of young audiences and be the leading voice in UK youth culture. Main Responsibilities
As a Content Assistant (CA) you'll be a key member of production, providing a mixture of administrative and creative support to the Assistant Producers and Producers as needed across the Asian Network. This support could take a range of forms, including uploading and maintaining website content, editing audio, video and/or images; you will be key in the delivery of our PRS legal requirements (Performing Rights Society – Music Reporting) as well as acting as a first point of contact between production, our contributors and audiences. We don't expect you to know how our systems work, we will train you when you join. But, we are looking for someone who is keen to learn, who is excellent at planning and organisation but above all is passionate about the Asian Network. In this role you will rapidly familiarise yourself with the end-to-end process of commissioning, producing, and delivering content on a large scale, enabling you to work towards future progression into content production roles.

Requirements

Are you the right candidate?
  • You should have an interest and passion for BBC Asian Network and the music and culture we celebrate.
  • This position would suit somebody interested in building a career in radio content production. This need not have been professional - you may have produced content as part of a school, college or university project, work experience, voluntary work or have gained experience of working at community radio or university radio station, creating blogs or YouTube videos.
  • You will have excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail, especially with written material and images.
  • As this role will involve working proactively to meet time sensitive demands, with a wide range of stakeholders, you should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team. Using your initiative will be encouraged!
  • You should have good online literacy and be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for the latest technologies and content formats, including social media.
