Do you have experience working with publishers and songwriters? Do you have an extraordinary understanding of music in the country format? In particular, do you have the ability to separate the commercially viable from the rest of the pack? Are you soaking up the current tastes and trends in country music? This A&R Representative role will allow you to lean into this passion and skill set.
As an A&R Representative, you will identify new artists who have the potential to be commercially successful, serving as liaison between artist and label leaders. The A&R Representative will manage internal organization and distribution of digital music and videos, as well as maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the A&R team by providing general administrative assistance.
What you'll do:
  • Identify potential new talent using every resource available
  • Conduct online research of artist/band websites and social networking sites
  • Attend live performances at clubs, showcases, concerts, writer’s rounds, and other venues
  • Maintain records on all potential acts
  • Log, review and recommend submitted/solicited demos and artists/bands
  • Act as liaison between potential artists / new acts and label A&R leaders
  • Create a network of resources including songwriters, producers, managers, booking agents, attorneys, concert promoters, trade and consumer press, and tastemakers
  • Regularly meet with A&R staff to provide status updates
  • Manage internal organization and distribution of digital music and videos for A&R staff and CEO
  • Serve as gatekeeper between SMN A&R staff and music publishing and song-writing community, fielding calls from publishers, songwriters, and others with A&R questions
  • Book artist showcases in coordination with A&R administration staff and serve as primary contact with artist and artist manager
  • Maximize effectiveness and efficiency of A&R team by providing general administrative assistance

Requirements

  • Experience working with publishers and songwriters with proven ability to create and maintain relationships
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of various genres of music with an emphasis on country format and ability to separate/identify the commercially viable from the pack
  • An understanding of current tastes and trends of the market
  • Prior experience interacting with recording artists; an understanding of artist lifestyle
  • Experience in a position that required exceptional time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task; ability to work independently, but be a team player
  • Available to attend local evening showcases (routinely) as well as ability to travel (although, rarely)
  • Working knowledge of digital music space and social media
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook) and proven internet capabilities
