The A Side: A Day in The Life
Representing all composers within the Classics and Screen division, the A&R Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining international creative strategy for signed composers, writers and producers and working directly with composers, writers and their managers and agents.
The A&R Manager will work with the rest of the international Promotions & A&R teams to develop the best rising talent and established composers; and support legacy composers and catalogues in providing opportunities to further the discovery of their music (creating writing, co-writing, sampling, remixing opportunities).
The A&R Manager will work with the international Promotions & A&R teams to co-ordinate consulting regularly with artistic planners to discuss repertoire, live season planning, and opportunities for all composers associated with the division (creating dance, orchestral, opera or installation opportunities).
The A&R Manager will also work hand in hand with the Sync team to co-create sync opportunities for writers and composers through the creation of original songs for sync, collaboration with the sync team on pitches and co-ordinate with the Sync team consulting regularly on the application of writers, composers and repertoire across all media types.

Be Creative
  • Develop current classical and screen composer roster and create co-writer and sampling opportunities
  • Source and identify new A&R opportunities and lead creative discussions and pitches

  • Set, deliver, and exceed business goals around growth, revenue, strategic value, and innovation
  • Lead and be responsible for all creative output from initial pitch and development through to execution and launch, working with artists and managers to both interpret their ideas and shape the creative vision
  • Successfully implement new creative partnerships whether within the company or outside of Universal Music, and create innovative opportunities
  • You will be comfortable working with the Commercial side of the business and will extensively collaborate with the executive team on business strategy, content strategy, business process optimisation, revenue optimisation, and research and analysis

Requirements

Person Specification
  • Experience in a creative leadership role within music. Prior experience in the development and execution of successful creative strategic plans across multiple teams for composers/artists/writers.
  • Experience in working with classical and/or screen music. Extensive relationships with composers and song-writers in these genres and pairing them with directors, choreographers, producers, orchestraters, programmers for creative projects.
  • Experience in artist/composer management is beneficial. Be able to showcase working with a composer/writer/artist successfully across all areas of the music industry – live agent, film agent, publisher, label, publicist.
  • A strong track record and extensive network in A&R
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • An understanding of the music publishing industry
  • A passion for classical music, culture, and creativity. This person will be driven by a desire to experiment with new formats and technologies, as well as a history of successful music productions.
